The Speech and Hearing Department

offers a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the communication impaired. We serve both children and adults.

Speech services include evaluations and treatment for:

  • Adults with learning disabilities
  • Articulation delay or disorder
  • Language delay or disorder
  • Problems associated with developmental delay, trauma, stroke, learning disabilities or laryngectomy
  • Stuttering
  • Swallowing disorders
  • Voice disorders

Services for hearing impaired individuals include

  • Complete audiological evaluations
  • Hearing aid evaluations
  • Hearing aid dispensing and service
  • Central auditory processing evaluations
  • Assistive listening devices

Programs for Adults with Learning Disabilities

The Adult Learning Center of the Speech and Hearing Department at Hunterdon Medical Center provides educational and psychological evaluation and consultation services to adolescents and adults with learning disabilities.

For a long time it was thought that learning disabilities were just for children. Not true: A learning disability does not go away with maturity. Adults with learning disabilities face adult challenges, including educational advancement, vocation, self-esteem, social interaction and independent living.

The Adult Learning Center was established to address the continuing need of many adults for assistance with attention deficit disorders or other conditions which may affect their pursuit of higher education, training, and job performance.

The Adult Learning Center provides educational, psychological and social work evaluation; speech and language evaluation and hearing testing, recommendations for counseling, therapeutic intervention, and work/school accomodations. Formal written reports as required under ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 may be issued.
